Steve Jobs: “The only problem with Microsoft is they just have no taste”

The only problem with Microsoft is they just have no taste, they have absolutely no taste, and what that means is – I don’t mean that in a small way I mean that in a big way. In the sense that they they don’t think of original ideas and they don’t bring much culture into their product and you say why is that important… well you know proportionally spaced fonts come from type setting and beautiful books, that’s where one gets the idea… if it weren’t for the Mac they would never have that in their products and so I guess I am saddened, not by Microsoft’s success, I have no problem with their success, they’ve earned their success for the most part. I have a problem with the fact that they just make really third rate products.

Oggi mi sono ricordato questa intervista, che ritengo una delle cose più vere ma anche più cattive che Jobs abbia mai detto contro Microsoft.

Mi sono ricordato di questo perché ho letto, via Joel, cosa Microsoft ha fatto scrivere dietro gli Zune: “Hello from Seattle”, per schernire a modo suo il “Designed by Apple in California”. Ma vi rimando all’articolo di Joel.

Mi piacerebbe che questo discorso venisse percepito non per il solito fanatismo pro/contro le due società, ma per il significato che è insito in queste parole. In altri termini, seppure è vero che Jobs sia il CEO di Apple, è anche vero che Jobs è Jobs, indipendentemente dal fatto che sia in Apple, Next, Pixar o quant’altro. E ovunque vada, si porta dietro un chiaro stile ed una limpida cultura del design.

Sapete cosa mi ricorda ogni volta? Olivetti dei bei tempi (1930-1960) (farei notare che la voce su Wikipedia è piuttosto povera come cultura e design, quel poco che c’è è per ora a mano mia).
